De wonderlijke avonturen van Herman van Veen

Discogs

Die seltsamen Abenteuer des Herman van Veen was a children series made by the ARD and broadcast in 1977. The series was in German, but the Dutch actor / singer Herman van Veen played the main character. After a successful run on German TV it was dubbed and broadcast in the Netherlands by the KRO. This album has the songs from those episodes. There were just six episodes in total, and in each of them Herman would disappear in one of the paintings that were hanging in his his house.

The best known song, and of Herman van Veen as a whole, is Opzij. The earlier German version was Weg da!, but it looks like it was not that popular. It was written by Van Veen and producer Erik van der Wurff. It is not clear to me if it was Dutch translated to German, or the other way. Both make sense. In another life I helped with organising an international tournament for fantasy football. It was used there as the song to signify the end of your allowed time. It was beloved by the mostly English speaking community, and called the Hurry-up song.
