French singer Isabelle Veronique Geffroy, calling herself Zaz, will for me always be connected to a lost Summer love in 2013. Her debut album was from three years earlier, but I didn’t hear it until I was hearing it a couple of times during this pink period. And I loved it so much, because it sounded so much like the careless Summer I felt I had.

The pink period subsided, the feelings died down, but I’ve always kept that special summery feeling for Zaz. I still listen to that debut album, so I wanted to try some later work, even though I didn’t much like her second album. Isa is her latest album, released in 2021. It doesn’t carry the careless vibe of that debut album, it is just trying too much. This is the fourth album I’ve heard of her, and none of the others have impressed me as that first record. I guess I have to admit it: the love is over.
