A curious record: relatively unknown musicians performing relatively unknown works by two brothers from the end of the 19th century. The two brothers is about all I know. Xaver is a bit better known, mostly because he has been made popular by the Hyperion and Naxos labels. I didn’t know of the existence of Philipp at all.
Xaver was the younger of the two (1850). He was less classical and more romantic. Also a bit more pianistic. Philipp was born three years earlier, and was better known for his symphonies. Both were born in an area of Germany (Prussia) that is now part of Poland.
Interesting music, but it might take me a while to better understand. Usually I’m not that much into violin sonatas though.
