The Italian composer Luigi Boccherini is mostly known for his chamber music, specifically for cello. He was born in Lucca, but has lived in and worked from Vienna and Madrid, where he died in 1805, aged 62. The most famous work Boccherini made is a menuet from one of his string quintets (opus 11 no 5).
The Boccherini cello concert presented here is called no 2, but according the Gérard catalogue the second is in A major. Maybe the title is taken from the publisher, who just calls it no 2 because it is the second in D major. If that is the case, this would actually be number 6, G479. Nerd me.
