Black metal and me were not always friends. When I was very gothic, I didn’t like it because it was too much guitars. The raw power of this music I never could resist however. This is the debut album from 1993 of the Norwegian black metal Satyricon. The singer calls himself Satyr, and this release has a long interview with the guy on the inside of the gatefold.
Three years before this release the band was formed in Oslo, but named differently. Eczema existed then of two founding members that left it before the first album was released. So was the band named after its singer, or did Sigurd Wongraven call himself that because of the band?
His own wiki page shows him in a jeans coat adorned with nordic runes. That reminds me of a story a friend told me two years ago at a festival. He was barred entry because he was wearing a shirt with runes. The venue didn’t want that anymore, because they had some trouble with local right-winged youth. Wearing the t-shirt under some other clothing was not enough, no sir!
