The love album Madonna made during her marriage to actor Sean Penn. Her third album established her as the female pop voice of the eighties. She was on par with Prince and Michael Jackson now. The following tour Who’s that girl stands as record breaking.
There are some great songs on this record, and I’m not a real fan of pop music. Some nice curiosities here: the song Papa don’t preach was written by Brian Elliot upon hearing teenage gossip outside the window of his studio: a girl’s school was next-door. The song is about teenage pregnancy. The song La Isla bonita is maybe Madonna’s best known song, but was initially written for Michael Jackson, who turned it down.
