The fourth studio album of country blues singer Seasick Steve. His actual name is Steven Gene Wold, and yes, he got his nickname because he gets seasick rather easily. I wrote about him earlier that I get the impression he creates his own myth about his past and his music, but I think this at least holds some truth.
The first song on this record pays homage to the diddley bow, basically a plucked single string instrument. The instrument might have roots in Africa, but in the American rural south it is mostly used as a children’s instrument. Not only Seasick Steve uses it though, and there are electrified versions of it as well. It also features prominently in the music film It might get loud, when Jack White is creating one and commenting afterward: Who says you need to buy a guitar?
