Michael Ponti was like a one man Hyperion. He started recording in the sixties, and had created more than 80 discs at the end of his career. Most of them were never recorded at the time, some of them still are the only existing recording. He also did complete recordings of the piano works of Scriabin, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov.
I didn’t know him at all, and I must say, performance wise he’s very good. I wasn’t too impressed with the recording quality, but there’s always something to complain about I guess. Although this one is not online, a lot of other records from Ponti are, and maybe they’re worth trying.
