Wings greatest

A compilation album with some songs that didn’t appear on any of the other albums. Some very fine music here from the ex-Beatle Paul McCartney. Funny thing though: I bought it for the cover. I just love the artwork.

The image on the cover is a statue by Art Deco sculptor Demétre Chiparus. Linda McCartney, keyboard player of the band and the wife of Paul, bought it at an auction in 1978, and Paul decided it would look great on his new compilation album.

The snow is real: they created the picture by going to Switzerland for it. As little as the statue is, they made the picture on the cover using a helicopter. So technically it is an aerial photograph. Paul liked the status so much, that it also can be seen on the mantlepiece shown on the next album Back to the egg.
