When I started with my studies in Amsterdam, I met some interesting people that had new music for me. All on tape of course, which I quickly copied. One of those tapes was filled with music from West Africa, Salif Keita among others.
So much later I bought this record, hoping it was giving me some of the joy I felt when I first heard the tape. It didn’t, but it is still nice to listen to. A mix of different artists from the area, probably put on record in hopes to score after Paul Simon’s (South) African revival.
