Guillaume de Machaut – Le remède de fortune

This is a small part of the 4000 lines long narrative poem of Guillaume de Machaut. He was primarily a poet, but he put some of his works to music. The French National Library has a beautifully decorated manuscript of the work, with some very intricate miniatures.

It is not clear to me if the music on this record comprises all of the written music in the manuscript. It looks it might be. Both the manuscript and an edited version of it are available online. The liner notes of the record are in French, and I’m sorry to say that my mastery of the language is not good enough to follow the text.
