The romantic tale of going from rag to riches that was described in the movie La vie en rose appealed to me because it ended in catastrophe. The woman that all the world adored was privately a street urchin that could control herself and didn’t know what to do with all the fame she got. In the end her upbringing in a brothel caught up with her: at 47 she died of liver cancer in 1963.
This record is a lot less interesting than the one I wrote about yesterday. Yes, it has the big hits you cannot get around, but it doesn’t have the charm of the unexpected. Everything you hear on this record is already too well known.
