Prince’s ninth studio album is a large collection of fairly differing songs. Prince was on a roll at this time. So much so that the record company had to stop him from releasing more. A collection triple the size of this already beefy album could have been the result, if Prince had his way. Rumour goes that the vault under his mansion houses a staggering amount of unreleased recordings.
Though not nearly as popular as Purple rain, this album still ranks number two in popularity among his works. Personally I found it refreshing: it has a lot of experimentation and interesting twists. A mix of pop, soul and folk. All in a beautiful gatefold package.
