Schubert – Forellenkwintet

Discogs

I wrote earlier about this quintet, then by the Schubert Quartett with Jörg Demus. This performance is better. Every time I hear this work I’m astonished at the breath and depth of the sound. From the highest registers to the lowest, it offers something interesting to listen to. This is mainly to the added bass of course.

This recording was originally released in monaural in 1959, but I think it was stereo in the studio. My guess then would be that they didn’t have to do much to publish this in stereo in what looks like the Seventies. It is even remastered for streaming on Spotify. That is not always a good thing, but it does show its prolonged life (a miracle, since all the members have by now died).
