2Cellos is what you get when you put two former rival cello players together and add YouTube. During their education in Zagreb, Luka Šulić and Stjepan Hauser found each other, created a wild version of Michael Jackson’s Smooth criminal and put it on YouTube. It was an instant hit. This is the debut album that followed in the same year.
Both Hauser and Šulić are classical schooled, and want to keep playing that. I have visited a masterclass by the both of them at a cello festival my city of Amsterdam. They can play Michael Jackson as well as Schubert. They just seem to excel at the former, judging on this record. For the ambitious cello player, they’ve published a sheet music version of the tunes on this record, so that you can try it yourself.
