The world of Scotland

In another lifetime, I decided with a friend to travel to Edinburgh and stay there a few days. We wanted to do that the slow way, by train from Amsterdam. Over London, so we really took the long way ’round. It was worth it, and along the way we were also visiting York when we passed it. It really is a beautiful trip, except we took the same way up as down. In hindsight I would have wanted to go south following the eastern connection. We would have passed Liverpool and the Lake District. Ah well.

But we saw Edinburgh. We were one week before the famous festival there. I was very impressed. The city really is a bit like London, just smaller. The picture on this album is taken in what is called New Town. New Town looks a little bit like the government district of London. It was built in the time of the Scottish Age of Enlightenment. It is now a UNESCO world heritage site, and rightly so.
