Melanie Safka was a singer from New York. She started performing there in the early 60s, and had her first recording successes in 1969. That was also the year that she performed at the famous Woodstock festival. She performed for around 500.000 people lighting the scene with candles. A formative experience, she admitted later, leading to the song Candles in the rain, on this record.

Ballroom streets is a live collection of previous hits and whatever else comes along. You can find all of her hits here. The LP has a bit more that the version on Spotify. It came out in 1978. Melanie was still singing when she died in January this year, working on her 32nd album. She did have her biggest successes in the early 70s though. Hits like Brand new key, and What have they done to my song ma.

These records were part of the collection of a friend, who kindly offered them to me when he needed the space and didn’t listen to them anymore. I thank him for that. You might be reading this, you know who you are.
