‘t Kliekske is a Flemish folk group, founded in 1968. The members share an enthusiasm for historical instruments, both in playing and creating them. That energy can be clearly felt in this recording. This is their first record, from 1969. The group reminds me a little bit of the Dutch Studio Laren, as reviewed earlier.
This release had an 8 page booklet inside, with explanation about the instruments used. Someone at Discogs has described the instrumentation in detail, per song. Like much of this record, it is translated both in Dutch and French. Belgium is a country on the language border, and they’re using both languages. Almost fanatically so. I once visited Brussels, and found myself in a baker shop in a French speaking part of the city. Unaware of the sensitivity I asked for something in Dutch, and it was clear they didn’t like it.
