I’m trying to find out how many times Haitink recorded the nine symphonies of Anton Bruckner. He was certainly considered a specialist, and has recorded his symphonies several times in his career, also with different orchestras. This is the first recording with the Concertgebouw Orchestra, made in the 60s. The website of the Concertgebouw shows a lovely picture of the recording team, temporary housed in what looks like the wardrobe.
Haitink’s last concert with the Concertgebouw Orchestra was in 2019, conducting Bruckner’s 8th. That he chose that says something about his love for this composer. I myself don’t have that much of him, and I wonder why. I’m trying to listen more, and get to know him a bit. Who knows, more about Bruckner might follow.
