VNV Nation’s third studio album, and at this moment still the earliest available LP release. For me this is a bit of a trip down memory lane. I got to know the band at concerts and during festivals. They were sounding like on this record, because this was then the latest release. Singer Ronan Harris’ creations went more in the direction of EBM (Electric body music). It was the influence of that time: hard beats. I loved it.
I remember a concert at a festival in Leipzig. I was there with my then girlfriend, and she liked the music a bit, but not that much. While I was enjoying it, she was sitting down on the concrete floor of the venue. I mention concrete, because it had its impact on the sound. The beats were grossly exaggerated, and unbearable if you were sitting. She didn’t like it.
When the next album, Futureperfect, came out, the band had chosen a different direction. It was less gloomy, and less with the beats. By that time I was tired of EBM, so it couldn’t happen in a better way for me. It was like they were following my taste.
