Like I already wrote yesterday, Sofronitzki was married to the eldest daughter of Scriabin, and it made him easily the Russia’s foremost specialist in the composer. I have heard performances of Scriabin in the past, and have written about hat before. I do admit this to be a superior performance, but I loathe the live recording.
Yet, I don’t want to dwell on that. The performance is that captivating. Sofronitzki lends the material a special magic that I’ve never heard before. Scriabin needs to be played like that, he’s almost like a Russian Satie in that sense.
