This is part 1 of a series of recitals by American violinist Sidney Harth. Born in Cleveland Ohio, Harth found his first fame in the early 50s, making tours all over the world, including winning a prize at the Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition in Poland. He went on to teach music at universities in Pennsylvania and at Yale.

On this record he is playing on of the three most famous Stradivarius violins, the Dolphin. It was once owned by Jascha Heifetz, and is nowadays owned by a the Nippon Music Foundation, a Japanese organisation that collects and loans out rare instruments. It is since this year played by Canadian violinist Timothy Chooi.
