I don’t wanna dance

Much to my surprise, Eddy Grant is his real name. He was born in British Guiana in a musical family. Eddy was the founder of The Equals (Baby come back) who went solo in the seventies suffering a heart attack in 71.

You could have fooled me. Eddy was as energetic as before, maybe even more. He got into tap dancing and acting, but mainly music producing. In 1982 he made this song, from his own studio in Barbados. I don’t wanna dance is both about the literal not wanting to move a muscle, and about the dancing in a political sense: I don’t wanna dance to your tune. I don’t want to do what you want me to.
