King Hokum

Hokum is a kind of blues with humorous euphemisms and innuendo’s. It was popular in the early years of the blues, until around the end of the Thirties. The word hokum refers to this: a vulgarity. The word might originate in a mix between hocus-pocus and ‘bunkum’, a word for nonsense. I wrote earlier about this.

Christopher William Stoneking is an Australian vaudeville blues singer, who started in 1999 with two albums in one year. His third album came out in 2005, and was picked up by a radio show. His star was rising quickly. The historical style Stoneking was using caught on, and was influential for others as well.
