Willem Vermandere is a singer, writer, poet, painter and sculptor from the south-west of Flanders. As the title implies, this is his fourth album, containing songs in the language of his region. I tried, and though it is related to Dutch, for me it is totally not understandable. The little that I understood is that most songs concern matters of daily life, with some protest songs mixed in between.
In later years (1991) Vermandere created a protest song against racism and xenofobia called Bange blankeman. It led to protests from supporter of the right wing political party Vlaams Blok, and even threats against him personally. Vermandere had his last concert in June this year, after which he announced to quit. Performing is taking too much energy for the octogenarian.
