When I was a little kid at school, we had a fifth grade hippie teacher. I suppose it was at the end of the school year that he got his guitar out and played in the classroom, for us. This song, which he also sang. Now that I listen to it, I am impressed, he must have had quite a voice reach.

Paul McCartney wrote this in 1974, on piano. It is a love tribute to the place where he lived: the peninsula of Kintyre in Scotland. It also features bagpipes of nearby Campbeltown. In the UK it became immensely popular, but it missed that in the US. Maybe the bagpipes put the Americans off, as they’re very prominent.
