The river made me really happy. It is Bruce Springsteen finally coming into his own, with this fly-over state feeling mixed with bluesy rock. Singing about small towns and recession, this album made him into a big and rich guy. The album contains many of his fan’s favourites.
It was originally meant as a much shorter album, called The ties that bind. Springsteen found this first version lacking in depth though, so he added a lot to it. It resulted in an album that has both dark and light songs.
A small booklet with the lyrics is added, and some very nice sleeves as well.
