Frank’s wild years

Subtitled Un Operachi Romantico in Two Acts, Tom Waits tenth studio album contains the music from a theatre production he made with his wife in 1986. It takes the title from a song on Swordfishtrombones, two albums earlier.

The best known song among the TV series watching crowd is probably Way down in the hole. It was used in various forms as the tune for HBO series The Wire, and the song fits the atmosphere very well. Innocent when you dream was used in a movie that I particularly like: Smoke, staring Harvey Keitel and William Hurt.

All in all an album of surprising beauty, but listening to it does not come easy at first.
