Bach – Osterkantaten • Easter Cantatas • Cantates De Pâques

I have written a lot about the Cantatas by Bach. This is another collection, this time containing his cantatas around the days of Easter. Around in the broadest sense of the word: some are written for the second Sunday after Easter. Bach wrote most of these as the Thomaskantor in Leipzig, responsible for the musical decoration of the mass in the Thomaskirche.

I visited the Thomaskirche just last week, and it is still a site to behold. The location lives and breathes Bach around every turn. There is a small museum opposite the church, that I can wholeheartedly recommend. They manage to give insight into archival research into Bach manuscripts, while at the same time breaking down his music in small parts, for you to analyse. Worth a visit, and a credit to the master.
