Promised land

Queensrÿche’s most successful album – dare I say it – ever. The fifth studio album from 1994 was the first I heard of the band. And then I discovered I already owned a record of them, but I had so far neglected it. It was also the start of a period full of bad records and legal and other arguments within the band. They never were the same after this.

The track that makes the strongest impression on me is still Bridge. It is about rhythm guitarist Chris DeGarmo’s father, who died during the recordings. Like many father son relationships, his were a bit challenged.

You say, "Son, let's forget the past
I want another chance, gonna make it last."
You're begging me for a brand new start
Trying to mend a bridge that's been blown apart
But you know… you never built it dad
