Debussy / Ravel – String quartets

Discogs

Both Debussy and Ravel wrote just one string quartet, and many times they come in a package deal. This is the third time I am writing about that exact combination: both the Borodin Quartet and the Talich Quartet have preceded this Orlando Quartet.

The Orlando were founded in Amsterdam in 1976, and existed until 1997. By that time the Hungarian primarius Párkányi had already left because of incompatible obligations. It was he who started a new quartet right after the Orlando quit, with mostly the same members. István Párkányi died just last year.

Why did they call themselves Orlando Quartet?
