More than a year ago, I wrote about the family stories of Godfried Bomans. This album has less of that, but is still full of funny anecdotes, told in the same manner. These are a little bit more engaged, like the jokes he tells about art.
The recordings are made in two locations, one of which caught my interest: the Renaissance zaal of the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem. In looking into that I found myself proving the theory that all discussions eventually lead to Hitler. My research led me to the same Nazis. How did I get there?
There is a painting called Elegant gezelschap in een Hollandse renaissancezaal, painted by the younger brother of painter Frans Hals. It shows a cheerful ensemble of elegant people in a beautifully decorated hall. The painting was stolen during the German occupation of my country, and given back to its rightful Jewish owners in 2019. Who sold it back to the museum a few years after. Everything is connected, so much is clear. And Godwin was right.
