I always liked the cover of this album, but I got it because of the name. I was fascinated with Avalon after reading Marion Zimmer Bradley’s Mists of Avalon. I thought I didn’t know the music, but it turned out I did. The two had nothing to do with each other.

The smoothness of this music underlines how little this band means. It might be the voice of Bryan Ferry that is bugging me, but can there be a band that says has less expression in their music? I never took the effort to listen to another album, so maybe they used to be better. This music is very good as background for conversations with the family of Christmas dinner.

I did find one interesting thing about this record though: design work was done by Peter Saville, who also did work for Factory records: Joy Division and New Order. Now those really are bands that have something to say.
