After Alan Parsons produced the famous Dark side of the moon album for Pink Floyd, he wanted to do something for himself. Together with Eric Woolfson he started a studio project and gave it his name. I robot is the second album, after his first effort, an homage to Edgar Allen Poe.
Eric Woolfson spoke to writer Asimov before the project, and he gave the idea his blessing. However, the rights for I, robot were already sold, so to circumvent that it proved enough to just remove the comma. I highly doubt that would work nowadays.
The artwork is from Terminal 1 of the airport of Paris Charles de Gaulle. I always thought it was details of the Centre Pompidou in Paris. The buildings are from around the same time however, so it figures.
