After his fusion album On the corner in 1972, Miles Davis went on hiatus, and quit music entirely in 1975. The jazz trumpeter that had re-invented himself so many times in the past got a lot of critique from colleagues for giving in too much to popular demand. With this album he went a step further: this is mixing jazz with pop music by way of funk.
I’ve never liked funk that much: too poppy for me I guess. For me Miles Davis is interesting up until halfway the Sixties. I lost my faith in him with Bitches brew, where he is experimenting with fusion and psychedelic funk.
