Apartheid, South Africa. Later, when I was studying history in Amsterdam, I was part of this group of students that organised meetings. Some with, some without a little talk. But there was always drink. So we had to buy some wine. We could buy nice quality, as there was some budget available. But NO South African wine! These were still the years of the Apartheid regime in South Africa, and there was quite a successful ban on im- export to that country.
English singer Labi Siffre sings about this on this record. The song made it high up the charts, and I liked it. I bought it myself.
And here there is something weird going on: my administration says I bought it from money from dancing. Uhm… did I get money from my volunteering there? I don’t remember anything like that.
