The Almighty was a band formed by three school friends on a school in Glasgow. Metal was a bit in confusion after Metallica’s black album, and in the early nineties it seemed to revolve mostly around angry activists and rap influences. The Almighty were a bit different.
They came from punk, but added metal influences. So for me they presented fresh music. What no doubt played a big role was that they were plugged a lot by MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball, the favourite show for my music. These were years The Almighty lived up to its name, and was everywhere.
Listening to it now it is a bit of a disappointment. Did I really like this in 1998?
