The jazz years

Discogs

Two records of compilation of the first 25 years of jazz at Atlantic records. The record company was founded in 1947 by two businessmen, with Ahmet Ertegun as the more colourful of the two. Turkish born Ertegun wrote songs (as Nugetre, his last name spelled backwards) studied medieval philosophy and invented the term rhythm and blues. Ertegun was active as president of Atlantic until his death in 2006.

This would have been an impressive set of records, if it were not for its bad state. I have listened to this on my second turntable, to make sure it doesn’t damage the sensitive stylus of the first. That second is able to withstand a bit more shocks. And shocks there were: the first songs of every side were not usable anymore, because the record is warped. That is really a pity, because the rest sounds really good. This is mostly old jazz, and really the good kind.
