What turned out to the last Alan Parsons’ album (only, not) has an interesting history. After the album about Gaudí, Eric Woolfson wanted to create a concept album about Sigmund Freud. He invested time to study him, read his books, visited the places he was active, and created music for many of these, including his famous patients. Freud called the patients he studied and described in his books after their archetypes. Many of these ended up as songs in Woolfson’s work.

While working on the music, he was approached by entertainment entrepreneur Brian Brolly. He wanted to work on a musical, using Woolfson’s music and concept. Woolfson accepted, and what was one album at the start grew out to a musical. And then shit started to hit the fan: Brolly and Woolfson fought over control of the project, while Alan Parsons retreated telling his partner he didn’t see an artistic future in the theatre. The legal fight was won by Brolly and Alan Parsons’ Project split.

The record is hard to find (not on Discogs) and not available on streaming, most likely as a result. There is a black version with recordings of the German stage performance, and this white version that has the title in English. Since I think this album deserves more attention, I’m adding a link to YouTube, in the hopes it won’t disappear any time soon.
